The Marion High School tennis teams opened their 2024 campaigns in a big way last week in a match with Wynne. Marion's girls won nine of 10 matches against the visiting Yellowjackets, including singles victories from Aubrie Weaver, Ella White, Lily Holloway, Jaclyn Burch, Esperanza Riedl, Alayla Peoples, Markaria Thomas, and Chloe Griggs. Girls singles dropped only one set against Wynne. On the doubles side, Michelle Strickland and Riedl and Burch and Peoples teamed up for a 6-0 victory. On the guys side, Elijah White and Aldo Sotelo won their doubles match 6-1, while Rucker Rogers and Nate Ervin turned Wynne away 6-5 in the tiebreak. Rogers worked overtime on the singles side as well, losing only in the tiebreak in his first-ever varsity singles tennis match.
