LADY PATS TOP WESTSIDE
The third annual Marion Soccer Showcase wrapped up last Saturday evening with Fort Smith Northside taking the tournament title.
Northside topped fellow Class 6A power North Little Rock 3-0 in the final with Lissett Vallejo taking down tournament Golden Boot honors.
The host school, Marion, is now 2-2 in 2024 after whipping Jonesboro Westside 5-0 on Friday night and losing to Northside 5-0 on Saturday morning and Brookland 3-0 Saturday evening.
The Lady Patriots open league action on Tuesday at 5 p.m. against Nettleton.
Marion recorded its third straight shutout on Friday night behind senior all-state performer Cheyenne Dotson's two goals, and goals by Patricia Lara, Thalia Garza, and keeper Kelby Lassiter, who went on to earn tournament Golden Gloves honors.
Northside led Marion 4-0 at halftime of the Saturday morning contest, and Marion was not able to take advantage of its chances in the nightcap against Brookland.
Marion's Michelle Strickland earned the club's Player of the Tournament for her efforts over the weekend.
The Marion-Nettleton girls and boys soccer matches will be broadcast live on MarionPatriots.com and the Marion Patriots Activities Network YouTube channel.
