MARION TRACK SHOWS WELL AT 5A STATE MEET
Marion's track team excelled at the 2023 Class 5A state track meet at Lake Hamilton High School.
The Patriot sprint team of Chris Hardin, Jameon Williams, Arviance Leflore, and Julian earned the state championship in the boys 4x400-meter relay, finishing the race in 3:24 seconds.
With their winning time, the 4x400-meter relay team qualified to compete in the Meet of Champions in Russellville.
Carter stood out individually by finishing second in the boys 400-meter dash with a 48.6, but he missed the winning time by less than .5 of a second.
He then finished third in the 800-meter dash, running 1:54.6.
Both of his individual times qualified him for the Meet of Champs in Russellville.
Carter's 2023 circuit has been full of highlights. He won the Class 5A indoor state championship in the 800-meter dash, and he recorded the fastest 400-meter dash in the state.
Carter ran a 1:51.53 800-meter dash at the Meet of Champions, which broke the all-time record for the 800-meter dash in the state of Arkansas. The all-state and all-conference performer currently resides in the Top 25 in the country with that time in the 800 meters and he's one of just 10 track athletes selected to the All-Arkansas track team.
He owns the Marion school record in the 400- and 800-meter runs.
