During the college selection process, Marion senior Sarah White admitted to feeling a little pressure, but it may have made her final decision all that much sweeter. White chose Lyon College in a signing ceremony last week in the Marion High School lobby. The senior cheerleader picked the Batesville school because of its strong academics and the ability to continue to cheer. “I'm really happy that this is over and done,” said White. “I've seen so many colleges during this process, but I'm glad that I know I've found the place that feels like home and is a fit for me.” “Something that we have always loved about Sarah is her answer is always 'yes',” said Marion cheer coach Lauren Brinkley. “A lot of people may think something is too challenging or too difficult, but Sarah isn't that way. She's always eager to put forth the effort to learn a new skill or improve one she already has, and I really appreciate that.” Lyon College is under the direction of sponsor Jennifer Kite, and this season qualified for National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) Cheer and Dance Championships in Daytona, Florida. White liked Lyon College almost immediately. “As soon as I got to campus, I recognized how much I liked the coaches and just how nice the actual campus is,” said White. “The major selling point for me though was the academics. I like that it's a smaller college. The student-teacher ratio is ten to one or twelve to one. The professors know and care about their students, they're really invested in the kids' lives. It's just a really nice environment.” White has cheered at Marion since sixth grade, but she thought her cheer career was over when basketball season ended, but an email from Kite changed her mind. “I was pretty sure it was over, but when she emailed me, I started thinking about it again,” said White. “Now I'm excited about it all over again.”
