WEST MEMPHIS TURNS AWAY MARION

WEST MEMPHIS --- It was a game touted by many across the state as a potential conference title game in the league's lid-lifter. Marion, fresh off consecutive state semifinal appearances, traveled Friday night to play West Memphis, which played for the state title two seasons ago. In the end, West Memphis (11-3, 1-0 5A East) racked up 19 offensive boards, including 10 from senior forward Clamisha Prackett, to outpace the Lady Pats (3-10, 0-1) at Lehr Arena. Marion claimed its only lead of the evening in the first quarter when senior guard Aaliyah Taylor connected on a three-pointer with 5:11 left, and the Lady Pats battled back to tie the game twice when Taylor canned a free throw, and Alyse Holliman made a pair of charities, the latter knotting the tally at 8 with 2:58 in the opening stanza, but the hosts scored the final six points of the frame for a 14-8 advantage entering the second quarter. The West Memphis run continued after the first quarter expired, as the Lady Blue Devil run reached 14-0 following an Alayah Price layup with 4:18 left for a 22-8 West Memphis advantage. The largest Lady Blue Devil lead of the first half was 17 points three times, including a 32-15 lead at halftime. At the break, Marion was just four of 21 from the floor, while West Memphis won the rebounding battle 18-11, including nine offensive caroms. The Lady Pats pushed back in the third, moving within 12 following a Ny'Asia Jackson three-pointer, and Marion trimmed it to 11 (38-27) when Kiera Neal split a pair of free throws, but West Memphis led 43-31 after three quarters. Alayah Price opened the scoring in the final frame with a steal and layup, which sparked a 10-2 run that sealed the game for the Lady Blue Devils. West Memphis by as many as 21 points in the fourth before settling for a 15-point bulge. Jackson scored a game-high 19 points for Marion, while Taylor poured in six, and Holliman hit for four.
