Four Marion baseballers participate in XI Classic

FOUR MARION BASEBALLERS PARTICIPATE IN XI CLASSIC

JONESBORO--- Four Marion baseball players played in the prestigious Xtra Innings Arkansas Baseball Classic last week. The 18th XI Classic showcased 88 of the better underclassmen in Arkansas high school baseball, including rising Marion seniors Slade Inman and Jett Sutton, as well as juniors Davis York and Matthew Kearney for the 2022 event at Valley View High School. Each player saw action during the two-day showcase. Inman rapped out a pair of hits, walked, and recorded an outfield assist during his two-day tour of duty in Jonesboro playing for Team Roger Dorn. York teamed with Inman on Team Dorn and played third and first base during Tuesday's game. Sutton, who earned all-conference honors in the spring for Marion's 29-5 Class 5A state baseball champion team, started Team Wild Thing's first game on Tuesday afternoon and worked a scoreless inning. Kearney joined Sutton on Team Wild Thing and played four positions, reaching base once. Each team played three games in Jonesboro, but players also went through combine-style drills prior to the competition. York recorded the best exit velocity of the Marion four at the XI at 88 MPH, while his average exit velo was 78 MPH. Inman's best exit velo was 84 MPH. Sutton's top fastball at Valley View was clocked at 85 miles an hour, with his curveball touching 75 MPH. The senior-to-be's best exit velocity was 87 MPH, while Kearney clocked 86 MPH. Sutton ran the 60-yard dash in 7.03 seconds, edging out Kearney, whose best time was 7.17. Inman finished the 60 in 7.23 seconds, while York did not run.
