FOUR MARION FOOTBALL PLAYERS SIGN LETTERS OF INTENT

After contributing to 18 victories on the field the past three seasons, including consecutive trips to the state semifinals, Marion football players Columbus London, Kyjuan Rodgers, Cameron Anderson, and Donte Moore signed letters of intent on Wednesday to play college football. London will attend Bethel University, while Rodgers signed with Division 2 powerhouse Pittsburg State. Anderson signed with Southern Nazarene University, and Moore linked to Lincoln University. “This was a culmination of our kids' investment in themselves, as well as their families' investment in them,” said Marion coach Lance Clark. “But, it's important to remember that it's just the beginning of the journey. All four of these kids have been recruited heavily.” London (50 career tackles, 15 pass breakups, three fumbles recovered, and two interceptions) started the previous two seasons at cornerback for the Marion defense, but Clark isn't sure where the senior will settle once he arrives at Bethel. Bethel, which finished 8-3 in 2021, is located in North Newton, Kansas. “He's got a ton of potential. I can see him at safety or corner because he got more fluid as the year went on,” said Clark. “As he gets stronger, his speed will increase. In two years, I think he's going to be playing a lot and be a difference-maker on that defense.” Rodgers racked up 123 career tackles, including five sacks, three forced fumbles, and an interception he returned for a touchdown in 2020 at Jonesboro. The 2021 6A East all-conference performer will play at Pitt State in Pittsburg, Kansas. The Pitt State Gorillas were 8-3 last season. “He's going to a premier D2 program, and he's been heavily recruited. The thing about Kyjuan is, a lot of times a highly recruited kid has a hard time rooting for the success of others, but he's always genuinely rooted for his teammates, and that's an extraordinarily valuable trait,” said Clark. “We can look up four years from now, and he's in the NFL. He's got that in him.” Anderson exits Marion as the school's fifth-leading rusher with 2,543 career rushing yards and 29 touchdowns. Anderson rushed for 1,806 yards in 2021, which ranked fifth in the state, regardless of classification. The Team Captain earned the 6A East's 2021 Running Back of the Year award, as well as all-state and all-conference honors. Southern Nazarene is located in Bethany, Oklahoma, and the Storm football program competes in the Great American Conference with six Arkansas D2 schools. “He really put himself on the map as a senior through his hard work,” said Clark. “I think Southern Nazarene got a steal with Cam. He's not going to bust. He's going to stick, and he'll make it. His character and grades are great. He'll help immediately on special teams, and he loves the weight room. I would bet the farm that whatever his potential is, he will reach.” Moore racked up 80 career tackles, including seven tackles for loss with three sacks and an interception in three varsity seasons. The Team Captain, who also plays basketball, will join his brother, Dontonio, at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. “A lot of colleges were intrigued by Donte's measurables, and what they think he could be,” said Clark. “Donte really does look like your prototypical edge player (hybrid defensive end/outside linebacker). I think he has a very high ceiling because of his length. He can be a third-down specialist early on, and develop into an every-down threat later in his career.”
