MARION SWEEPS LR HALL IN BENEFIT GAMES

Both Marion basketball teams notched impressive victories Monday night in their respective benefit games against Little Rock Hall. The Marion ladies held the Hall women to seven points in each half, pulling away for a 46-14 victory. The Marion boys did not allow a point to Hall in the second half as the Patriots steamrolled the Warriors 79-8. Twelve Marion ladies scored in the opener as Alysie Holliman paced the Lady Pats with eight points, Kiera Neal poured in seven, and Daedrianna Cail scored six. “We tried a lot of combinations tonight. We wanted to try a bigger group, and a smaller, faster group,” said Marion coach Shunda Johnson. “I just hope we got all of our missed free throws and missed block outs out of our system.” Marion forced 10 Hall turnovers in the first quarter, and connected on nine of 17 field-goal attempts to lead 19-4 after the first quarter. That advantage swelled to 34-7 by halftime, paving the way for every player on the Marion varsity roster to earn time in the 46-14 verdict. The Marion boys jumped Hall in the first quarter, forcing six turnovers and Marion turned them into four dunks. Hall called three timeouts in the first quarter to try and stem a 35-3 Marion run, but to no avail. Marion forced 14 Hall turnovers in the first half to lead 57-8 at halftime. Junior Ryan Forrest poured in a team-high 24 points, including four highlight-reel dunks while junior Jayden Forrest, cousin to Ryan, logged 17 points. That production all came in the first half. Darrion Love and Jalen White hit for eight points apiece. “I knew we'd be super athletic and talented this year,” said Marion boys coach David Clark. “We felt like our guards really got out and defended like we started out last year. We can do a little bit better defending the goal, but other than that, I really liked what we did on defense.”
