Baseball Sweeps Paragould

BASEBALL SWEEPS PARAGOULD

Marion Patriots baseball (16-4 overall, 7-1 5A East) defeated Paragould (1-17, 1-7), 4-0 in game one on Tuesday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Matthew Bain got Paragould’s Davault to hit into a fielder's choice to finish off the game. Ben Gerrard led the Patriots to victory on the pitcher's mound. The righty allowed one hit and no runs over six innings, striking out nine. Bain threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen and recorded the last three outs to earn the save. Marion got its offense started when Chase Armstrong's sac fly scored a run in the first inning. Daedrick Cail also scored in the inning on a wild pitch. Dalton Ricker started the first game on the mound for Paragould. Ricker allowed six hits and four runs over six innings, striking out four. Luke Bullins, Dylan Kight, Armstrong, Kaleb Catt, Gerrard, and Matthew Kearney each collected one hit for the Pats as they outhit the Rams, 6-1. JD Wilson had the lone Paragould hit. Matthew Kearney showed timely hitting in game 2 on Tuesday, driving in five on three hits to lead Pats past Paragould 13-2. Kearney drove in runs on a triple in the first and a double in the fifth. Daxton Davis pitched the game 2 victory for Marion. The righthander went five innings, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out three. Jack Henry Glasgow was on the pitcher's mound for Paragould. The senior surrendered 10 runs on six hits over three innings, striking out three. Rollings and Jordan entered the game as relief, throwing one and two-thirds innings and one-third of an inning, respectively. Marion tallied seven hits in the second game while only allowing two Ram hits. Kearney and Connor Taylor both managed multiple hits with 3-for-4 and 2-for-4 games respectively.
